Let’s get straight – the web is a ridiculously spacious place. Especially for training artists – there are so many inspirations. I like various art branches, such as 3D (architectural visualization and entertainment types), 2D design (websites, typography, logo), photography, comics (mainly manga) and more. That’s really a lot for reading. Entering so many websites with having countless web browser tabs and bookmarks consumes a lot of time and can distort the productivity. Luckily, I came across hydropix’s post about RSS. It’s one of the most useful web features in my opinion. Almost all blogs and websites with news systems gives you possibility to add RSS channel, which contains only plain text and/or photo. You add it to any RSS reader – be online (web browser), or offline (software). Simply said, you pack RSS channels of sites you find inspiring to one reader. You can also sort channels into categories and so on. Instead of checking dozens sites, I simply log into Google Reader. I can choose what category I want to see, or open list of all unread items. Very convenient!
Worth to note, it’s a good idea to add sites that posts works of various artists – like FFFOUND! or Gorilla Artfare. In that way, you can sometimes find new inspiring artists and easily add their blogs/sites to your reader. You can add feeds I’m using – just download OPML file (use ‘Save file as’ in web browser) and import it to your RSS reader (Settings > Import > Select an OPML file).
UPDATE: Forgot, as hydropix mentioned, it’s useful to have a web browser plugin that allows you to save images to predefinied folders with only few clicks. Firefox has “Save Image in Folder”. For Chrome, it seems there’s no such plugin yet. Opera doesn’t support plugins in way like Firefox or Chrome and requires to edit *.ini files. For more detailed, I’m afraid you will need to search for tutorials.
Seems my love for Islamic architecture doesn’t fade away :) The monster cleaner was for forum challenge – I had to design a wizard helper if I remember correctly.
